High-efficiency precision die casting industry applications

2025-08-21

Casting is an efficient method for producing raw castings, with sand casting being the most widely used technique. Castings can be manufactured using methods that allow for complex structures, a wide range of dimensions, and diverse materials. Castings are a cost-effective solution for producing raw materials in large quantities. To ensure casting quality and minimize common casting defects such as internal porosity, shrinkage cavities, and surface inclusions, it is essential to consider various factors including casting structure, casting process, and pouring conditions.

Precision casting is a commonly used casting method. To prevent defects such as shrinkage cavities, inclusions, and cracks in castings, which can lead to scrap parts, the design of the casting process directly impacts the internal quality of the casting. Currently, in China's mechanical manufacturing industry, many components are produced using casting methods. On one hand, casting methods are not limited by the complexity of part structures, size, or material, making them highly versatile, with large production volumes and low costs. On the other hand, casting methods have evolved into various types, such as lost foam casting, investment casting, pressure casting, and squeeze casting. Additionally, new sand mold materials, coatings, and melting processes have emerged, improving the surface quality of castings and enabling the production of parts with minimal or even no machining allowance.

The rationality of casting processes significantly impacts casting quality. Generally, the factors causing casting defects in castings are complex and diverse, such as material selection, mold structure, metal melting and pouring, improper design of the pouring system, casting process flow, coatings and insulation measures, and the feeding system, all of which may result in substandard casting quality. Based on existing experience, it has been proven that various casting defects in castings can be eliminated by improving mold structure, pouring process parameters, metal melting processes, coating usage, and other measures. Defects that can be avoided through improved casting processes can also be eliminated through post-processing.
